Thanks to you, in 2012 Free Geek has been able to:

• Disburse 1066 desktop computers and 401 laptops to more than 360 schools, churches, non-profits and other community change organizations through our Hardware Grants program.
• Give out 525 desktop computers to volunteers through our adoption program. And 3033 volunteers have given their time at Free Geek and learned workplace readiness skills and about core computer components.
• Provide free classes in basic and advanced computer use and digital literacy skills to over 1350 students.

During the month of October, Volved.org is giving $10 to non-profit causes selected by new users. Volved offers a service similar to GoodSearch; both websites use searching activity to raise money for non-profits. Unlike GoodSearch, Volved uses Google as its search engine, is based in Portland, and is a non-profit that gives 90% of generated revenue to your selected cause.

Volved’s mission is: To build a foundation of sustained involvement in social responsibility and nurture a deeper connection between you and your chosen cause. Volved pledges to protect your privacy, including requiring your explicit permission to share your personal information and not tracking your searches. This does not guarantee that you will be shielded from Google tracking.

Please consider signing up for Volved today. Although they request your name, you need only provide an email address, username and password to help Free Geek raise $10 per new user. Continuing to use this service is also an excellent and easy way to support Free Geek as we continue to expand our volunteer, recycling and educational opportunities.

Our ability to build computers depends on the hard work of our volunteers and the generosity of our donors. We have machines just waiting for a few specific pieces of hardware before they are transformed in to Freekboxen and given back to the our community.
