While Free Geek does a lot of recycling, our primary focus is on getting the donated technology reused. The Build Program is therefore at the heart of Free Geek’s mission. Computers received are rebuilt into working machines running the Ubuntu Linux operating system. These are then donated to volunteers or non-profit organizations or sold in the Thrift Store. While the main effort in Build is on PC desktop systems, we also have programs to rebuild laptops, Apple computers, servers and printers, as well as a testing program to find working components such as video cards, motherboards and network devices.
