THE PRINTER PROGRAM'S GOT A NEW GUY
September 9, 2005 Long-time volunteer/superhero Guy Longanecker was hired today to coordinate our newly rebuilt printer program. We trust he'll get Printerland flowing well.
NEW RECYCLOORD!
June 30, 2005 Today was Christen McCurdy's first day coordinating the recycling program. She's got spunk and smarts, and we think she'll do a great job.
LAN PARTY
July 30-31, 2005 Joren is hosting another LAN party: see Geekwars for more information on this
totally geeky overnight party.
GRANT STOPPED AT THE BORDER
July, 2005 As part of our grants program,
we gave a lessdisks computer lab to
Pastors for
Peace to carry down to Cuba. Unfortunately, these computers were impounded when the
caravan was stopped at the border.
GEEK FAIR WAS SUPER!
July 16, 2005 This year was the biggest and best-attended Geek Fair yet, with scads
of bands, tall bikes, kids' activities, local environmental organizations
and crafters, and fun all day long. We hope to see you next year!

FIND YOUR DATE
April 1, 2005 The prom's coming up! Don't worry, we dreaded it too, way back
when. But the Geek Prom's a different
story. Join us!
SMASHTACULAR!
March 12, 2005 If you missed the Smashtacular on Saturday, you can
just save your rage for the next one. This afternoon, we raised about
$85, exploiting our friends' primitive aggression and getting those
recyclables broken up really thoroughly.
The next smashtacular will be at the Geek Fair (in July), if not before.
FIELD TRIP TO OLYMPIA
March 6, 2005 FREE GEEK Olympia
had a benefit on Sunday, March 6. A bunch of us Portland Free Geeks went up

Linux Certification at Free Geek
February, 2005 For those who circulate in the business world, certifications can help
convince employers that you know what's up. LPI has created a distribution-neutral certification for
Linux sysadmins, and it's gaining recognition all over the
world. Thanks to their generosity, Free Geek is offering the LPI
certification exams at $40 apiece - and part of that goes to help fund
our operations!
The next exam is on Sunday, March 6; register by Saturday, February
19. There will be another on Sunday, April 3. Contact laurel (at)
freegeek (dot) org for more information.
SOMEBODY GOTTA PROMOTION
January 1, 2005 Michael,
who has been patiently answering questions and solving problems as our
Tech Support Coordinator Intern for the past six months, has joined
the FREE GEEK staff collective as our Tech Support Coordinator. He
says, "The main function of tech support as I see it is to make sure
part of Free Geek's mission is effective and the rebuilt computers do
not end up as door stops," and i think we all agree. Computers are no
use without understanding.
