FREE GEEK HELPS UGANDA GET GEEKY
February - March, 2006 In early 2006, the Beaverton Rotary Club enlisted Free Geek's help in delivering computer equipment to a university in Uganda, and helping them make the most of their
technology. Numerous volunteers prepared the equipment, and staffer Martin
Chase delivered it, spending several weeks setting up systems, training people, and
soaking up that good Uganda culture. Check out the journal he kept.
OREGON COMPUTER CONSULTANTS ASSOCIATION
February, 2006 The OCCA donated a generous $600 to Free Geek in January. The OCCA is comprised of consultants specializing in a wide variety of computer work. They clearly like what we do, and many of them have been donating hardware, shopping at the thrift store, and volunteering for some time. Pete Forsyth, Rev. Phil, and Rick Konold attended their monthly meeting in February, to thank them and extend an invitation to get more involved. Hopefully we'll be seeing more of them! And if you need to hire a consultant, be sure to check their web site. You can easily search for the kind of work you need. Also, OCCA members have all endorsed a code of ethics, and have earned the respect of their peers.

WE VISITED FREE GEEK COLUMBUS!
January 20-23, 2006 Staff member Richard Seymour recently visited the burgeoning Free Geek Columbus in Columbus, Ohio. The organization is currently located in an old firehouse. They have approximately 500 square feet of space in their facility, take donations by appointment, and are looking into finding money so they can pay some of their volunteer staff.
