Meet Zade

Zade came to WorkSource Douglas as a youth working with Gaylene from South Coast Business, the local WIOA Title1 provider. He was not able to complete his education, had no paid work history, and very limited work skills. He was looking to gain skills, work opportunity and hopefully become enrolled and complete his GED to assist with job search and gain employment.

His short-term goal is to gain his GED and continue on with schooling. His long-term goal is to get a degree and find career employment to support himself. He recently turned 18 and wants to focus on getting these priorities completed. He is very interested in science and someday wants to pursue that field of study and/or employment.

Zade is currently enrolled with Umpqua Community College’s (UCC) GED program. He had no access to a laptop or computer at his home, this really put an obstacle in his way for competing  GED and job search.

UCC had just told him that they were worried about him succeeding without better access to a computer to complete the required work. This laptop will allow him to continue on with his GED, research and pursue careers and look for short-term employment to help support himself while in school as well as keeping in touch with WorkSource staff.
